Parents In Australia Welcome A Surprising 14.5 Pound Baby Into Their Family

Australia's Melis and Ben Amey welcomed a sizeable addition to their family with the arrival of their daughter Willow, and as 7NEWS Melbourne reported, she might have set a record on her way into the world.

It wasn't really a surprise that Willow was a large baby.

After all, Melis and Ben's first child, also a girl, weighed in at 12.3 pounds (5.6 kg). But Melis said that even she was "startled" when Willow received her weigh in and tipped the scales at an astounding 14.5 pounds (6.6 kg).

That's a whole lot of baby to give birth to in one go.

Initial reports suggested Willow had been born naturally, which sounds equal parts impressive and terrifying, but Melis and Ben later set the record straight and confirmed that she had been born via C-section.

It's believed that Willow might just be the biggest baby ever born in the state of Victoria, if not all of Australia.

In 2018, Teu Ala gave birth to a 13.8-pound (6.3 kg) boy via C-section at just 35 weeks, which PerthNow suspected was a new record.

"Everyone was asking me, 'are you having twins?' and I was like 'I wish,'" Ala said at the time.

Whether she's a record or not, Willow has already saved her parents one thing.

Melis and Ben don't have to worry about buying her newborn-sized clothing. She's already wearing clothes for a three-month-old, right out of the gate.
