Trucker Finds The Road Less Lonely With Adopted Stray Cat By His Side

I'm somebody who doesn't mind spending long periods of time alone, but a year of working from home taught me that even a hermit like me is capable of loneliness. It's not just the isolation, either.

When you spend a lot of time in just one place, it's not difficult for how small your world has suddenly become to gradually start getting to you.

But one trucker has found the most adorable way to beat the solitude blues.

Paul Robertson has worked as a long-haul trucker for years, but he's been at his happiest when he does it with a buddy.

According to Animal Channel, Robertson's buddy was once a cat named Howie.

Wherever he went, he would treat his followers to lovely photos of his traveling companion like this one.

Sadly, that came to an end when Howie passed away in 2017.

Robertson felt Howie's loss hard and the road became even lonelier with such a clear void where his little buddy used to be.

Obviously, he needed to do something about it.

And so, the trucker from Minnesota made another trip to the shelter and found himself a new cat.

This one, named Percy, had an injury above his right eye and was missing one of his teeth. This provided a hint as to the kind of life he once had to live as a stray living in the streets.

However, you apparently wouldn't know how rough Percy has had it from how he behaves.

As Robertson said, "He’s very affectionate and loves to crawl on my lap, up my chest, and then rub cheeks with me. He loves to play. He purrs a lot."

And of course, there are a couple of things that give Percy a lot in common with other cats.

As a quick look through Robertson's Facebook photos will tell you, Percy loves to sleep. He loves to eat too, but his tummy almost caused Robertson to lose him forever.

While Robertson was sleeping at an Ohio rest stop, Percy jumped out of the vehicle's window. This was likely to chase something tasty.

As The Seattle Times reported, Robertson looked everywhere for Percy, but had no idea where he went off to.

To make matters worse, he had to meet an important delivery deadline in Indiana.

Even though it made him feel like a "bad cat dad," Robertson had to leave Percy behind and press on.

As The Seattle Times reported, he drove 400 miles through rain and snow. All the while, he felt miserable about his cat.

According to Animal Channel, his Facebook followers reached out to every animal shelter in Ohio for clues, but came up with nothing.

However, something incredible happened shortly after Robertson made it to Indiana.

He spotted what he thought was a stray cat near his truck, only to discover that it was Percy. He had apparently stowed away in the truck's undercarriage and hung on for all 400 miles of the trip.

The cat was understandably tired and hungry, but amazingly, he was otherwise OK.

That was quite a scare for the duo!

As Roberston said on Facebook, "The other day I caught myself laughing at one of his antics and I thought: 'It’s nice to live alone sometimes 'cause you can have everything your own way – but I wouldn’t be laughing like this if I were alone.' Percy is good for my spirit and soul"

Since the scare, Percy has been living his best life!

"This is what I see when I go to bed at night. Percy's pillow is right next to mine. So I get into the truck bunk and get under the blankets and rest my head on my pillow, and then a moment later Percy joins me, and puts his head on his. <3 #percywercy, Robertson wrote on his Facebook.
